Impala 35 – A Mahogany Work of Art and genuine “Danish Dynamite”
A rare and rewarding Impala 35 built in 1995 now available! It is based on the well-known and high-performance Impala 36 hull model, but exceptionally well executed with a cross-laminated mahogany-epoxy construction. The boat was designed by the esteemed Danish Björn E. Jensen, and Impala boats are aptly described as “Danish dynamite” – fast, stiff and truly made to sail.
S/Y Echo was built in collaboration between Fördewerft and the renowned Matthiesen & Paulssen in Germany. The current, second owner of the boat, brought the boat to Finland in 2021, where she sailed in fresh water at Lake Päijänne.
Visual delight and top-class finishing
This specimen is not just a boat – it is an exceptionally fine example of craftsmanship that will stand out in any harbor. It has:
• The soul of a wooden boat, modern simplicity: the vacuum-laminated mahogany-epoxy structure is rigid, tight and practically maintenance-free compared to traditional wooden boats
• High-quality construction: the hull and ruff are made of 5 x 3.2 mm vacuum cross-laminated mahogany veneer and epoxy. There is no fiber reinforcement on the outside above the waterline, but a pigment-free Awl Bright coating is applied to protect the wood. Below the waterline, the wood surface is protected with a epoxied fiber mat, topped with an epoxy-based EpuCoat coating
• Finish: the mirror-like Awlgrip Awlbrite surface brings out the depth of the sabre mahogany beautifully
• Details: fittings, joints and interiors finished without compromise – both aesthetics and usability comes first
A genuine sailing feel
The Impala 35 is not a space-maximizing compromise, but a boat for sailors who value the feel:
• Moves lively even in light winds
• Aims upwind efficiently and high
• Runs smoothly and fast in down winds, thanks to the supporting stern and large gennaker
• The large mahogany-ash rudder conveys an exceptional driving feel directly
Proven performance
It’s not just about beauty – performance is also proven:
•valid ORC and FinnRating measurement certificates
•The boat uses the Impala 36 offset file in the ORC system
•also evidence of competition success in cruising races
A rare opportunity to acquire a boat that combines the soul of a classic wooden boat, the ease of a modern structure and the authentic “Danish dynamite” sailing feel.
